PRESTON LANG LPC-MHSP

I have been practicing as a therapist since 2013. I am licensed as professional counselor-mental health service provider in the state of Tennessee.

I attended the University of Mississippi, where I majored in psychology and sociology. I continued my education and training across the country in the Pacific Northwest, where I received my Master’s degree in mental health counseling at Lewis and Clark College Graduate School of Education and Counseling in Portland, Oregon.

After moving to Nashville, Tennessee in 2014 I worked in the field of foster care, as well as community-based mental health clinics. In 2019 I began my private practice. Today I work primarily with adults who experience “stuckness” in their life as anxiety, depression and relational conflicts. I continue to see children and parents to provide support around behavioral and emotional changes. I also specialize with women who are experiencing pregnancy complications such as loss, infertility, and postpartum changes.

I offer in-person or virtual appointments, as well as schedule hiking sessions for those who prefer to be outdoors.

COUNSELING

Child Counseling + Parenting

I have specialized training and years of experience working with young children and their caregivers. I utilize Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Play Therapy, expressive arts interventions and other attachment-focused interventions to assist parents and kids in their relationship with one another. Play Therapy and Parent-Child interventions not only allow a safe space for a child to process their emotions, but also provide a clearer understanding of their perspective for parents and caregivers. Early childhood counseling teaches healthier ways of communicating their big feelings, therefore reducing the need for behavioral outbursts.

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

I have extensive training in diffferent therapeutic approaches designed to help adults navigate through life, and become “unstuck”. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space for adults to experience a sense of autonomy and control as they process their own individual needs. I believe in the efficacy of learning to identify the younger “parts” of your Self, and how to determine if they’re still serving you today. Through Internal Family Systems, we can develop a clearer path for our truest Self to show up in our daily lives. Individual counseling allows us to gain an awareness and understanding of our familial and generational influences, and create an overall sense of peace and higher functioning. I have experience in helping teens and young adults who may struggle with: self-esteem, life adjustments, depression, anxiety, boundaries in their relationships and family-of-origin issues. I also provide specialized support to women struggling with pregnancy complications such as loss, infertility and postpartum changes.
